DISCOVER YOUR Y

South Valley Family YMCA member Tom Butt with friends at the Y
In 2020, 67-year old Tom Butts spent 110 days in the hospital with COVID-19. He was fighting for his life on a ventilator, in a medically-induced coma at Kaiser Permanente San Jose. Tom left the hospital 110 days later weighing only 97 lbs. As a lifelong triathlete, Tom was used to pushing his body to the limits in fitness training, but he knew that if he ever wanted to run, cycle, or swim another mile, he’d need to train like never before and learn to use his lungs again.

"Never give up who you are to belong. I missed out on years of joy in celebrating with my parents our culture and traditions. I missed out on being me so that I could be more like my friends – an African American, a Peruvian, a Japanese, and an Asian Indian – perhaps we all gave up something thinking we had to be more like each other." - Trung Ho, YMCA Staff

Safety is a key element of summer fun. Both the Y's swim lessons and safety around water programs offer youth valuable safety lessons, and much more. Consider enrolling in one or both of the programs to keep you and your family safe this summer.
