basketball at the local YMCA.
A family from Los Altos has donated $50,000 to the El Camino YMCA to help ensure underserved youth are able to participate in the Y’s basketball programs.
The donation came from the Telkamp Family Charitable Trust. Family members Bruce, Diane, Audrey and Max Telkamp recently attended an event at which Y administrators recognized their donation by presenting them with a plaque.
Bruce Telkamp said the Y has been a part of his family’s life for many years through his children participating in everything from swim lessons to youth sports.
“We are so grateful for all the Y has done for our family and appreciate how much the Y gives back to our community,” he said.
El Camino YMCA Executive Director Renee Zimmerman said she is excited about the new partnership to support the Y’s efforts to reach underserved children in the Mountain View community.
Specifically, the donation will enable the Y to launch an afterschool basketball program this fall, beginning with students at Castro Elementary School, as well as to provide children with scholarship funding to participate in the Y’s regular winter basketball league.
