San Jose, CA - January 12, 2026 - YMCA of Silicon Valley announced a new partnership with Silicon Valley Tech Academy (SVTA) to expand access to high-quality STEM education for youth across the region. Through this collaboration, SVTA’s hands-on curriculum — focused on climate science, robotics, renewable energy, and computer programming — will be delivered through YMCA Camp Campbell and the YMCA’s after school network, reaching thousands of children in San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz counties.

Founded in 2006 by Dr. Jay Pinson, Dean Emeritus of the College of Engineering at San Jose State University, along with university and industry leaders, SVTA was created to provide students with early exposure to emerging technologies and engineering concepts. Since then, the organization has served thousands of students and earned a reputation for rigorous, engaging, and accessible STEM education.

As part of the partnership, the programs will be renamed the Dana Carl Ditmore Silicon Valley Tech Academy, honoring Ditmore’s lifelong commitment to STEM education and community service.

“Dana believed deeply in the power of education to change lives,” said his wife, Elaine Ditmore. “We’re honored his name will continue to inspire future generations.”

SVTA’s offerings include TECH I and TECH II courses, advanced modules in robotics, digital electronics, and alternative energy, and emphasize teamwork, experimentation, and real-world problem-solving. Integrated into Camp Campbell’s mobile science initiatives, these programs will significantly expand access to hands-on STEM learning in diverse communities.

“This partnership allows us to bring world-class STEM education to children who might otherwise never have access to it,” said Vince Staub, SVTA Board Member and Camp Campbell Board Chair. “By combining SVTA’s innovative curriculum with the YMCA’s reach, we’re creating powerful pathways for young people to explore science, technology, and the natural world.”

Camp Campbell’s Outdoor Science School will incorporate SVTA content into its Science Camp on the GO! program, delivering blended environmental and technology education directly to elementary schools.

“At YMCA Camp Campbell, we believe the best way to learn science is to experience it,” said Jill Gary-Bennett, Senior Executive Director, YMCA Camp Campbell. “These programs allow us to reach more students with engaging, hands-on learning.”
