September 16, 2026, Palo Alto, CA - We’re thrilled to announce a $250,000 grant from Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg to help transform underutilized space at the Palo Alto Family YMCA into a welcoming environment designed specifically for middle school youth.
This new space will give young people a place to connect, build friendships, learn, be active, and belong—in addition, the investment will also support important energy-efficiency improvements to help create a more sustainable Y for generations to come.
Photographed above, Kathleen Worrell, Associate Executive Director of Palo Alto Family YMCA and Danny Koba, Vice President of Youth Development gave a guided tour of the intended space to Molly Moesel, Senior Program Officer and Jessica Schwartz, Senior Program Operations Manager of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. The project will be completed in 2027.
We’re proud to partner with Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg in advancing a shared vision of building thriving communities.
Together, we’re creating safe spaces where every young person has a place to belong.
