SJ Giants Book Reading

When school ends and summer begins, children are at risk of going hungry as they lose access to federal free and reducedprice lunch programs.
Alarmingly,

  • 1 in 5 children in Silicon Valley are at risk of going to bed hungry.
  • Out of the 84,691 children eligible for the federal free or reducedprice meal program in Santa Clara County in 2015, only 10% received free meals during the summer.
  • In 2016, through our  year-round federally funded after school and summer meal programs, the YMCA of Silicon Valley provided a total  489,625 healthy meals of and snacks to children in lowincome areas, including more than 92,000 meals and snacks during the summer.

This  summer, the YMCA of Silicon Valley's Summer Food Program is offered once again with support from our partners: Stanford School of Medicine, the California Summer Meal Coalition, Second Harvest Food Bank, Revolution Foods, San Jose Giants and numerous different local school districts and libraries.
