Available in English and Spanish, the Preschool/Transitional Kindergarten Program provides an early introduction to the Developmental Assets Framework for parents, caregivers, teachers, and students.

This program features reading early childhood literature monthly to provide students with a set of Social and Emotional (SEL) skills and attitudes that promote a strong desire to learn. Caring adults such as teachers, parents, and caregivers, will be building preschoolers’ social, emotional, and cognitive skills during the reading, discussion of, and participation in the activities that accompany each lesson.

The goals of the program are to:

  • Engage parents/caregivers early in their child’s education experience to establish healthy patterns for life-long learning.

  • Introduce and build Search’s Developmental Asset Framework to all adults and children.

  • Start to foster the development of SEL skills (e.g., self-management, self-awareness, responsible decision-making, social awareness, and relationship skills).

  • Increase the number of caring adults that preschoolers interact with at school to enable them to feel increased levels of support and value.

  • Create a caring, positive school climate where all preschoolers belong and feel safe.

  • Promote early literacy skills that will enrich a young child’s life with positive qualities and experiences that will increase academic success.
