YMCAs have led health and fitness programs for people of all ages, incomes and abilities for more than a century. We also focus on overall wellness, empowering you to tailor your own plan toward healthier living by choosing how you will accomplish your wellness goals. The whole approach means you have many options and lots of support as you choose your path to a healthier new you!

At the YMCA, we have the facilities, equipment, programs, and staff to support you. Make new friends, increase your self-confidence, and improve your spiritual, mental and physical health.

Like all Y programs, health, well-being and fitness is open to all, with financial assistance available.

Fitness Center

The YMCA has two fitness centers that provide excellent cross-training benefits with strength training, cardiovascular and flexibility equipment. The Fitness Centers have equipment accessible to people of all abilities. A wide assortment of cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, cross-trainers, Stepmills, rowing machines, upright and recumbent Life-Cycles, and Precor Ellipticals provide a variety of aerobic programs to suit individual needs. Cybex with FitLinxx, a computerized exercise tracker, and free weights are available for strength training.

->Cardiovascular Equipment

We have state of the art cardiovascular machines including treadmills, elliptical cross-trainers, stepmills, rowing machines, and upright and recumbent stationary bicycles.

->Cardio Theater

All cardio equipment is connected to Cardio Theater which allows you to watch television while exercising. Please note that each member will need to supply his/her own headphones to enjoy the audio portion of the broadcast.

->Free Weight Equipment

The Weight Room has a variety of free weight optins including: Smith machine, power rack, chest press, incline chest press bench, decline bench, flat bench, cable crossover, lat pull down, and dumbbells ranging from 2.5 lbs. to 100 lbs.

 

->Personal Fitness Program

The Southwest YMCA offers all facility members three (3) one-on-one fitness orientation sessions in order to develop personalized fitness program. 

With your Personal Fitness Program you will:

  • Feel confident that your exercise program that is right for YOU.

  • Feel successful using state-of-the art equipment.

  • Stay motivated with guidance and encouragement from our friendly staff.

  • Become committed to exercise through the routine of a structured program.

Make your appointment today through the Member Service Center.  Available free of charge to facility members. 

->Youth Orientation

The Youth Orientation has been designed to introduce youth ages 8-11 (required min. height 4'6") to workout safely using select cardiovascular machines & weights. Proper technique and fitness etiquette is discussed. Upon completion of the course, youth ages 10-11 will be able to access the fitness center and free weight room without a parent/guardian present. Youth ages 8 & 9 are required to have a parent/guardian present during their workout.

Personal Wellness Services

The Southwest YMCA is pleased to offer the following fee-based personal services:

->Personal Training

A Certified Personal Trainer can develop an exercise program to fit your individual needs and goals. You can choose to work one-on-one with a personal trainer or with a partner and share the hour and cost of the session. Your personal trainer will guide you through your workout, monitoring your form to make sure you get the most out of your workout.

->Pilates Studio Training

The Reformer, Stability Chair and Cadillac Tower are the primary pieces of large equipment used in Pilates. The Reformer glides forward and backward on rollers and uses spring-loaded weight for resistance; the Stability Chair and the Cadillac Tower also use spring-loaded weight. This multifunctional equipment provides a full-body workout. Using the Reformer, Chair and Tower improves core strength, enhances athletic performance and improves the way your body looks and feels.

Training in our Pilates Studio will help you develop stronger, longer and leaner muscles; improve your posture; increase the range of motion in your joints; and promote better balance mobility and flexibility. Pilates Studio Training is a perfect complement to all types of athletic training and fitness routines. Pilates Studio Training is safe and effective for all members; from rehab patients to elite athletes.

->Fitness Assessment

A Fitness Assesment calculates your baseline. We measure your resting heart rate, resting blood pressure, body composition, upper body strength, core strength, flexibility, recovery heart rate, VO2 max and cardiovascular capacity. A certified YMCA fitness specialist will answer your questions and help design an exercise program based on your assessment results and goals. We may require a doctor’s release prior to your fitness assessment.

->Living Strong, Living Well™

Living Strong Living Well™ is a 12-week, small-group strength and fitness program for adult cancer survivors who have  become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from treatment or disease. In our small group setting, you’ll regain energy, strength and stamina while building muscle mass, increasing flexibility and endurance, and improving your quality of life.

The program meets twice a week for 75 minutes and is offered to you at no cost, thanks to support from generous donors, the Stanford Health Improvement Program, and the Y. You do not need to be a Y member to participate.
