The Sequoia YMCA’s Wellness Center provides excellent cross-training benefits with both strength training and cardiovascular equipment.
YMCA fitness coaches will introduce you to our equipment, work with you to develop a Personalized Fitness Program and provide you with ongoing support. |
Cardiovascular Equipment
We have a variety of cardiovascular machines including treadmills, elliptical cross-trainers, arc trainers, steppers, and upright and recumbent stationary bicycles.
Strength Training Equipment
Our collection of CYBEX and Keiser strength training equipment is designed to help you condition your upper and lower body. They are exceptionally easy to use and can be adjusted to fit your needs. Our CYBEX equipment is also attached to FitLinxx, a computerized system that provides instant feedback to individuals through their workout.
FitLinxx
FitLinxx is a computerized interactive system that is attached to our CYBEX strength training equipment. It learns your individual workout program, gives you immediate feedback and motivation and allows you and your fitness coach to monitor your progress and workout history. With FitLinxx you may also log other activities like a run on the treadmill or a yoga workout. Available free of charge to facility members.
Using FitLinxx at the YMCA lets you:
- Exercise using a customized program geared to your goals, needs and constraints
- Receive personalized support from your Fitness Coach
- Get immediate feedback on your precise exercise movements, i.e. it tells you to slow down or speed up
- Track your workout progress over time

Personal Fitness Program
The Sequoia YMCA offers all facility members ongoing support including a one-on-one orientation to help individuals develop a Personal Fitness Program.
With your Personal Fitness Program you will:
- Feel confident with an exercise program that is right for YOU
- Feel successful with equipment that is easy to use and an exercise routine that is easy to stick with
- Stay motivated with guidance and encouragement from our friendly staff
- Become committed to exercise through the routine of a structured program

Free Weight Room
Our free weight room has a variety of benches and equipment including: Smith machine, power rack, chest press, incline chest press bench, decline bench, flat bench, cable crossover, lat pull down, leg press, gravitron, and dumbbells in various weights.
Youth Orientation
The Youth Orientation has been designed to introduce youth ages 9-17 to workout safely using cardiovascular and strength training equipment and free weights. Proper weight room demeanor and etiquette are also discussed.

Living Strong, Living Well™
This program is designed for adult cancer survivors who have recently become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from treatment and/or disease. We offer a small and intimate group setting that creates a supportive environment to enrich physical health and fitness. In collaboration with the Stanford Health Improvement Program, our goal is to help patients build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve overall functional ability

Personal Training
Personal Training is specifically tailored to your needs. A certified personal trainer will guide you through a customized program and help you get the results you need in the fastest and most effective way possible. You are instructed in all components necessary to alter body composition, the use of proper bio-mechanics, anatomy, physiology, proper nutrition, and more.
Fitness Assessment
With a Fitness Assessment a YMCA fitness specialist will determine your current fitness level by profiling your resting heart rate and blood pressure, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance, and body composition. Afterwards, we’ll review your results and provide recommendations for your fitness routine. |

Active Older
Adults
It’s never too late to feel great! We offer a comprehensive and integrated program that encourages members to grow in the areas of physical, emotional, social, vocational, intellectual and spiritual well-being. We have programs that are designed for men and women in their 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 100’s!
At the Y, our adult exercise classes promote fitness and well-being while fostering friendship. Our volunteering and social events help build lasting relationships and community ties.

Group Exercise
Group exercise provides a supportive and safe environment to help increase one’s strength, endurance, flexibility and balance. The classes listed below are taught by fitness specialists with an expertise in working with active older adults. Classes are ongoing and members are welcome to drop in.

Water Group Exercise Classes
Water group exercise classes are a wonderful alternative to “land” exercises. With water exercise, there is less impact on your joints, but you still receive the same cardiovascular workout as you would if you were doing it on “land.” All fitness levels and non-swimmers are welcome!

Living Strong, Living Well
A 12-week small group program designed for adult cancer survivors who have recently become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and/or disease. Our goal is to help patients build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve functional ability. Additional goals include reducing the severity of therapy side effects, preventing unwanted weight changes, and improving energy levels and self esteem. A final goal of the program is to assist participants in developing their own physical fitness program so they can continue to practice a healthy lifestyle as a way of life.

Swimming & Aquatics Programs
Whether you want to learn how to swim, exercise, or just unwind and have fun in the water, with our indoor swimming pool the Sequoia YMCA has an aquatic program for you. Swim Lessons
Learn how to swim at the YMCA! Swim lessons are taught by certified swim instructors and include instruction in personal safety, water sports and games, stroke development, rescue and personal growth. Private and Small group swim lessons are available for all ages and swimming abilities.
Water Exercise

Lap/Fitness Swim
Lap/Fitness swim is for members who wish to use swimming for a workout. Swimmers must be able to swim the full length of the pool continuously without support. If space is available - exercising, walking and floating are permitted during fitness swim. Workout equipment is available from the lifeguard upon request.
Family Swim
Special times are available for anyone interested in enjoying the swimming pool in a fun, relaxing environment. Children age 6 and under must have direct adult supervision and contact in the water at all times.
