->Flag Football

It’'s back to the gridiron as Co-ed Flag Football, for ages 5-14, begins another exciting season. Flag football is a minimum contact alternative to tackle football that emphasizes the skill aspects of the sport such as passing, catching and running as well as learning plays and strategies. Everyone gets an equal amount of playing time and an opportunity to play different positions. As with all YMCA youth sports this is a values-based instructional league. Practices are held once per week, for players 8 years and older. Those 5-7 years will have a 30 minute practice followed by the game. Sessions are held during Fall every year on Saturdays.

->Little Hoopsters

Basic movement, fitness, and exercise will be emphasized in this fun and active program. At least one parent/adult must participate. Sessions are 45 minutes on Saturdays.

->Noon Sports

In 2003 in response to a need for noon time recreation at Nixon Elementary school, the Noon Time Sports prograwas started. In 2004 El Carmelo and Ohlone schools joined the program. The program has grown to include Hoover, Barron Park, Fairmeadow and Palo Verde Elementary Schools. This  brings the total of  schools in the Palo Alto School District serviced by this Palo Alto Family YMCA program to seven..

On average 30-40 children in grades 1-5, participate at each session. Most schools have one session per week. Nixon and Fairmeadow have two weekly sessions. The kids participate in a variety of sports, such as football, kickball, soccer and dodgeball. They also enjoy other organized games such as Capture the Flag, Freeze Tag and Doctor and Spy.

Our objectives are to create a safe and fun environment that is equally enjoyable for both boys and girls, and someday, to offer this program at all 12 elementary schools in the Palo Alto School District.
