Youth and adults learn aquatic skills which allow them to enjoy a lifetime of fun and fitness in the water.

Swimming

The YMCA has been America's leading swim instructor for more than 100 years. But our aquatics programs extend beyond instruction. We also provide recreational, competitive and specialty aquatics programs for all ages and abilities, including parent-child classes, water exercise and therapy, water safety and rescue, and water sports. Programs and classes vary by location.

Like all Y programs, swim, sports and play is open to all with financial assistance available.

Youth Swim Lessons & Swim Club

YMCA Swim Lessons teach children skills critical to water safety, social interaction, fun, and lifelong fitness. Participants move at their own pace, building a sense of confidence and accomplishment as the progress. Swim lessons are broken up by age and skill level:

->Youth Swim Lessons (6 months – 12 years)

At the Y, our swim lessons build skills, confidence and character. We teach people of all ages and abilities how to be safe in the water while staying active and having fun. Whether you’re splashing around with us for the first time or improving your stroke technique, you’ll feel secure knowing that the Y is here to support you.

->Ducks Youth Swim Club (4-16 years)

The Duck Swim Club is for more advanced swimmers who are ready for a more challenging swimming experience.

->Private Swim Lessons

Private lessons are taught one-on-one. Ideal for swimmers who want personal instruction specific to their needs.

Recreational Swimming

The Palo Alto Family YMCA aquatic center features a 25-yard, 6-lane lap pool, warm water recreation and exercise pool, and spa. Experience the benefits:

Pool temperatures right for a multitude of activities:

  • The Instructional Pool, kept around 87 degrees, is ideal for youth swim lessons, exercise programs, and adapted training.
  • The Fitness Pool, kept around 84 degrees, is ideal for fitness swimming, swim clubs, and deep water fitness classes.

Our state-of-the-art Ultra Violet Filtration System:

  • Improves water and air quality
  • Reduces red eyes and skin irritation
  • Minimizes exposure to bacteria and viruses

Adult Aquatics

We offer a variety of water-based fitness and wellness programs for adults. Join our energetic instructors and welcoming class setting for programs like Adult Swim Club, Aqua Boot Camp, Arthritis Class, Aqua Pilates, Deep Water Fitness, Shallow Water Fitness, Swim Stroke Clinics, Water Walking and more! We also offer Adult Swim Lessons and periodic Lifeguarding Courses.
