YMCAs have led health and fitness programs for people of all ages, incomes and abilities for more than a century. We also focus on overall wellness, empowering you to tailor your own plan toward healthier living by choosing how you will accomplish your wellness goals. The whole approach means you have many options and lots of support as you choose your path to a healthier new you!

At the YMCA, we have the facilities, equipment, programs, and staff to support you. Make new friends, increase your self-confidence, and improve your spiritual, mental and physical health.

Like all Y programs, health, well-being and fitness is open to all, with financial assistance available.

Fitness Center

Our state of the art fitness center features both strength training and cardiovascular equipment for excellent cross-training benefits. Y trainers will introduce you to each machine in our Fitness Center and work with you to develop a Personalized Fitness Program.

->Cardiovascular Equipment

We have a wide selection of cardiovascular machines including treadmills, elliptical cross-trainers, steppers, rowing machines, and upright and recumbent stationary bicycles. Learn about our upgraded Precor equipment.

->Cardio Theater

All cardio equipment is connected to Cardio Theater allowing you to watch television while exercising. Please note that each member will need to supply his/her own personal headphones to enjoy the audio portion of the broadcast.

->Free Weight Room

The free weight room has a variety of benches and equipment including: Smith machine, power rack, chest press, incline chest press bench, decline bench, flat bench, cable crossover, lat pull down, and dumbbells ranging from 2.5 lbs. to 100 lbs.

->Free Weight Strength Training

Without proper training, it is possible to over train and get injured while using free weights. Learn all about safety and form while you reap the benefits of free weights from our knowledgeable fitness professionals. Allow us to create a series of free weight workouts tailored to meet your needs and expectations.

->Personal Fitness Program

Northwest YMCA offers all facility members a one-on-one orientation concluding with the development of a personalized fitness program. 

With your Personal Fitness Program you will:

  • Feel confident with an exercise program that is right for YOU.

  • Feel successful with equipment that is easy to use and an exercise routine that is easy to stick with.

  • Stay motivated with guidance and encouragement from our friendly staff.

  • Become committed to exercise through the routine of a structured program.

Make your appointment today through the Member Service Center. Available free of charge to facility members. 

->Youth Orientation

The Youth Orientation has been designed to introduce youth ages 9-12 to work out safely using selectorized equipment, free weights, and cardiovascular machines. Proper weight room demeanor is discussed. Program participants are also taught the proper usage of cable attachments, collars, and all bars. Upon completion of the course, youth ages 11 and 12 will be able to access the fitness center and free weight room without a parent/guardian present. Youth ages 9 and 10 are required to have a parent/guardian present during their workout.

->Circuit Training

Our complete circuit training program is comparable to many circuit training studios. It is designed to bring you the best cardiovascular and strength training workout all packed into one 60-minute session. The Circuit Training routine takes place using high repetitions/low weights on our selectorized equipment and incorporates exercises for all the major muscle groups. The routine helps you to burn fat and develop muscle strength and endurance. You will enjoy your circuit workouts in a small group setting. This is a class that goes by quickly with significant results in half the time.

->Women’s Strength Training

This 8-week program offers females over the age of 16 and varying fitness levels an easy-to-follow guide on developing muscular fitness. By dispelling the many myths and misconceptions of free-weight training, we assist you in conquering the fear of your transition from the selectorized Cybex™ equipment to a new world of strength training options. Conducted in a group setting, the program is fun and interactive. Learn about functionality, muscle isolation, safety and efficiency.

->Fitness Evaluations

If you are starting a fitness program or you are just curious about your fitness level, you can have your fitness level tested. The five components of the fitness test are aerobic fitness, muscular strength, endurance, flexibility and body composition. The test session will be followed by a consultation to assist you in matching the activities that best suit your needs and goals.

->Flexibility and Stretching

Flexibility is an integral part of true physical fitness. Learn various ways of strengthening your core muscles (abdominal and back), improve spinal mobility, posture and balance, and learn various relaxation techniques. Learn how to take your joints through their full range of motion. Make an appointment at our Welcome Center.

->Personal Training

The Personal Training Program at Northwest YMCA provides our members with a premium personalized fitness training experience. This is a fee-based program designed for our members to benefit from hourly sessions with a certified personal training coach. Initially, our personal trainers will screen and evaluate the member’s fitness levels. Then a well-designed, individualized exercise program will be administered through safe and effective one-on-one consultations.

Total Health

->Living Strong, Living Well™

Living Strong Living Well™ is a 12-week, small-group strength and fitness program for adult cancer survivors who have recently become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from treatment or disease. In our small group setting, you’ll regain energy, strength and stamina while building muscle mass, increasing flexibility and endurance, and improving your quality of life.

The program meets twice a week for 75 minutes each session and is offered to you at no cost, thanks to support from generous donors, the Stanford Health Improvement Program, and the Y. You do not need to be a Y member to participate.

->New Beginnings

Open to Northwest YMCA members who are graduates of the Living Strong Living Well™ program, New Beginnings is designed to provide cancer survivors with a natural fitness progression, to keep improving conditioning, strength and endurance. Classes take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00-2:00 pm.

->Nutritional Counseling

Proper nutrition is vital to a healthy lifestyle. Our nutritionist will provide you with strategies for healthy eating and customized meal plans. Most meals are simple to make, especially if you are using healthy, fresh ingredients.

Set up an individual session for a diet analysis and customized meal plan to help you reach your goals.

Proper nutrition can help you increase your energy, lower your blood pressure and cholesterol and help with weight management and weight loss.

->NEW - EnhanceFitness®

Enhance Fitness is a nationally recognized, evidence-based senior fitness program endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). It is an hour-long exercise class, proven to increase cardiovascular health, muscle strength, bone density, mental sharpness, flexibility and balance. It is appropriate for a variety of physical abilities and especially suite for those looking for low-impact exercise or suffering from arthritis.

 ->Meditation

What is it and how can it enhance your life? Explore the infinite potential of meditation and find out how you can embrace this practice, making it part of your daily life. Meditation is known to reduce stress, promote a positive attitude, and lower blood pressure and anxiety levels.

Experienced practitioners lead guided meditations and instruct how to regulate the mind. The mind can be taught to be an instrument of change for both the individual and that individual’s society. Experience a sense of centeredness that will result in the delicate balance between your inner and outer worlds. Come try this wonderfully balanced class.

->TRX® Demonstrations

Experience an amazing and efficient way to workout with just one simple piece of equipment. Everyone can benefit from Suspension Training®. You can effortlessly control the resistance and level of difficulty by simply shifting the position of their body, the TRX® Suspension Trainer™ is perfect for gentle rehabilitation, hardcore athletic training, and everything in between. Suspension Training® also allows for complete ranges of motion while training, yielding a more functional workout routine.

 ->Weight Loss Challenge

Our 10-week Weight Loss Challenge (September 9 - November 12, 2016) helps you get in shape, lose weight and adopt healthy eating and exercise habits. We’ll support you every step of the way. We measure your initial fitness level, share information about fitness and nutrition, support you with weekly meetings, and encourage you throughout the process.
In short, we’re here for you. Weekly meetings include a review of exercise and food logs, information about exercise and nutrition, and an opportunity to share ideas and strategies for success with fellow members.

Youth Fitness

Northwest YMCA has taken a particular interest in how our youth perceive their physical health and competency. Youth who care about their physical competencies are more likely to enjoy physical activity and continue their involvement in sports and other activities than youth who are less engaged.

We have developed the Youth Strength Training (Y.S.T.) program that is proven to be safe yet fun and includes all components needed for a healthy young life to thrive. We have integrated educational components and activities that reflect the Y’s commitment to the health and wellness of spirit, mind and body for all.

Northwest YMCA encourages our youth to embrace all of the components of fitness and to view strength training as only one part of a total health program.

For kids and teens between the ages of 5 and 17, our Youth Strength Training Program is designed to achieve fitness and health awareness at an early age. Strength and coordination help develop physically and socially, in a friendly and encouraging setting. Strength training can also assist in making participation in team sports safer and more enjoyable.

 


Active Older Adults

Being healthy means more than simply being physically active. It’s about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body. The Y is a place where you can work toward that balance by challenging yourself to learn a new skill or hobby, fostering connections with friends through our lifelong learning programs, or bringing your loved ones closer together through our many family-centered activities.

At the Y, it’s not about the activity you choose as much as it is about the benefits of living healthier on the inside as well as the outside. Our Active Older Adult Program helps you achieve and maintain physical and mental fitness regardless of physical limitations.

->Lunch Lecture Series

Join our monthly lectures and hear from experts in the fields of aging, emergency preparedness, nutrition, exercise and overall wellness. We welcome your ideas and topics for future lectures.

Check the Active Older Adults Bulletin Board for information on upcoming events and activities, such as our quarterly Senior Fitness Assessment, potlucks, health-care articles, Poetry Circle, Book Club and Y Service Club meetings, and more.

->Senior Fitness Assessment

Stay tuned for updates on our semi-annual Senior Fitness Assessment events for an opportunity to learn how your current fitness level compares to that of others in your age group nationwide.

Through a series of simple tests we will measure:
- upper and lower body strength
- aerobic endurance
- upper and lower body flexibility
- balance and agility

After the assessment, you will meet with one of our
Fitness Professionals to review your results, receive a detailed report and plan your fitness program.

Open to adults 60 or older.
