Family Programs

Serving families has always been at the heart of the Y. We are a place where they can find respite from social, economic and educational challenges, and learn how to overcome them. We have a fundamental desire to provide opportunities for every family to build stronger bonds, achieve greater work/life balance, and become more engaged with their communities.

Family time at the Y is about giving families as a unit, and as individuals, the opportunities to deepen relationships, develop new skills and interests, improve their health and well-being, and connect to the community.

->Parents' Night Out

We offer Parents’ Night Out once or twice a month to allow moms and dads the opportunity to enjoy an evening out while your children have fun at the Y. Each night includes an exciting themed event with related high-active games, arts and crafts, dinner and a snack. Date night has never been this exciting for you and the kids.

->Play & Learn Parent-Child Class

The Play & Learn class is a parent-child interactive class modeled after a preschool setting, for families with children ages 0-5. Classes are led by trained volunteers from the Community Health Awareness Council in partnership with the FIRST 5 Learning Together Initiative. Children and parents will sing songs, developing rhythm and gross motor skills, while building vocabulary. For more information, contact Danielle Bowman at danielle.bowman@ymcasv.org or 408-351-2430.

->Kid's Club

(Ages 6 weeks - 11 years) As a facility member, when you’re at the Y you have access to Kid’s Club, where your child has an opportunity to socialize with other children and engage in fun activities. Available for children 6 weeks to 11 years old, Kid’s Club offers activities including music, singing, group games, arts and crafts, story time, board games, and playground fun. We vary activities each week, to keep everyone’s curiosity alive.

Our staff are trained in safety, activity planning, CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention, and they are enthusiastic about working with children as well as committed to providing the highest quality of care.

Each month is themed to reflect holidays, seasons, pop culture, or events in a child’s life – like going back to school – and is designed around a developmental asset, such as early literacy or interpersonal skills. Parents, download your copy of our Kid's Club Parent Handbook.

Kid’s Club Hours:
Mon – Fri:
8:45 am - 1:15 pm and  3:30 pm - 8:45 pm

Sat & Sun:
8:00 am – 12:30 pm

Kid’s Club is available for up to 90 minutes per child, per day, within the times noted above.

-> Adventure Guides

(Grades K-3) One-on-one time with a father, or other male role model, helps strengthen relationships that build confident kids. The ATLANTIS group is fathers and their daughters (K - 3rd grade) and our NORTHSTAR group is fathers and their sons (K - 3rd grade) The groups have monthly meetings and special events where you and your child can share experiences and create lifelong bonds. The program runs from September through June. Events include camp-outs and activities like ice skating, kite flying, bowling, father daughter dance, community service learning projects, river rafting and much more!

(Grades 4-6) Our TRAILBLAZER group extends the Adventure Guides experience to the older elementary kids. The focus remains on building strong relationships, and kids take a more active role in the planning and leadership of events and activities.

Contact Danielle Bowman, Youth & Family Program Director at danielle.bowman@ymcasv.org or 408-351-2430 for more information and to sign up.
