Youth SportsYouth Sports

Our sports programs develop more than skills—they develop character. We offer a variety of programs for youth and adults, including recreation and league sports. Coaches—often volunteers and including many parents—emphasize teamwork, cooperation, and developing good values.

The YMCA has been America's leading swim instructor for more than 100 years. But our aquatics programs extend beyond instruction. We also provide recreational, competitive and specialty aquatics programs for all ages and abilities, including parent-child classes, water exercise and therapy, water safety and rescue, and water sports. Programs and classes vary by location.

Like all Y programs, swim, sports and play is open to all with financial assistance available.

 


Youth Sports League and Clinics

->Summer Hoops Basketball

Summer Hoops Basketball League teaches basketball fundamentals and provides children with a team experience hosted by positive adult role models. Participants improve their basketball skills with practice and their social skills through teamwork.

->Summer Youth Basketball Clinic

Our Youth Basketball Clinics work on basic fundamentals along with some scrimmaging to introduce youth to sportsmanship and teamwork. Players will work on various skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding and defense. At the Y, we encourage safety, fair play and good sportsmanship. Youth Fitness Programs

The El Camino YMCA provides a healthy environment rich with opportunities for children and families in our community to connect with one another and to become healthier in sprit, mind and body.  Our youth programs promote the positive, healthy development of young people through activities and experiences that address the developmental assets that all children and youth need to grow up into caring, responsible and competent adults. Family programs include parent-child classes, health and fitness programs, family camps and family events.

->GymVentures

Discover the important link between play and learning with GymVentures parent-child program at the YMCA.

GymVentures is a unique program for newborns, toddlers, preschoolers and their parents to engage in activities that enriches the parent-child relationship while developing the child’s motor skills, social skills and self-esteem.

Gym Tots & Wigglers (9 months - 3 years):
This adult/child class is geared toward your child ‘s emerging skills with guided circle time, Music ,singing , games, free play, parachute and bubbles. Learning to share, recognizing colors and shapes and the alphabet are reinforced through play and song An adult must accompany each child enrolled.

Gym Kids (3-5 years):
Each week, we teach basic movements and develop gross and find motor skills along wiht colors, shapes, letters and numbers through mucisc and fun games. Your preschooler attendes without a parent and gets the chance to meet new friends.

->Youth Fitness

The El Camino YMCA offers weekly activities where your child can learn something new, interact with peers and mentors, and stay active! Visit our Family and Youth Schedule to find out more. Examples of classes offered:

  • Zumba (Age 4-12)
  • Martial Art: Brazilian Jiu Jiutsu, Tae Kwon Do (Age 5-12)
  • Youth Dance: Dance for All, Zumba, Hip Hop, Ballet, Dance Aerobics (Age 4+)
  • Karate (Age 4 and up)
  • Yoga (Age 3-12)
  • Guitar lessons (Age 5-12)

 


Adult Team Sports

At the Y, sports and recreational activities are something special. Friendly competition (even with yourself), lots of variety and a supportive environment means team sports and recreation is fun again, and it makes for a healthier lifestyle and a good story or two.

Whether you miss “suiting up” or are new to team sports, the Y’s sports leagues provide a perfect opportunity to be active, social and reconnect or start fresh with a sport you love. Basketball, soccer, hockey, tennis, volleyball and golf are just some of the options available to get you back on the court or on the field.
