Facility Enhancement Update
Update 8/13/10:
After 12 weeks of construction, the renovation of our locker rooms is now complete and are now available for use!
Thank you for your patience during the renovation. While this phase of the project is complete, in the coming weeks, we will move into the expanded Pilates room, as well as update our lobby and other program areas.
Update 6/7/10:
We've resolved the issue with the water temperature in our temporary shower facilities. Effective today, the water should be consistently hot.
A new HVAC system and new plumbing have been installed in the locker rooms. We are pleased the project is progressing on schedule.
Update 5/19/10:
Our locker room renovation is in full swing! Temporary men's and women's shower, restrooms, and locker facilities are available, with four showers, two toilets, and approximately 40 lockers. You can access these facilities through our Counseling Office, which is through the third door on the right side of our main hallway. Please be respectful of other members by taking shorter showers and conserving hot water.
To access our main building and/or pools from our temporary facilities, you must return through the Counseling Office. (That is, you will not be able to access our lobby from the temporary facilities.) For your protection, the temporary facilities will be enclosed by fencing, which will limit unauthorized access.
El Camino YMCA is proud to announce the renovation of our men's and women's locker rooms, scheduled to begin Monday, May 10. While the upgrades will take approximately 10 to 12 weeks to complete, we are confident that new improvements will add value to your membership and enhance your experience. As with any major improvement, your normal routine may be interrupted temporarily, but we will do our best to accommodate your needs. Throughout the renovation temporary lockers and showers will be available for your use. We also have arranged for you to have free access to 9 other YMCA of Silicon Valley locations during this time. Once the renovation begins, we will communicate with you throughout the process. We will update this page with the most current information regarding the construction, areas of the facility affected, and its potential impact on you. We are confident that the new improvements will enhance member experience and thank you for your patience during this time.

 Our enhancements include:
- Renovated locker rooms with new showers, tile, lockers and flooring; new wood in the sauna; improved heating, cooling, ventilation, and lighting; and improved vanity space.
- A new family and special needs locker room with private changing, showering and toilet facilities and direct access to the pool deck.
- A new stretching area near the Wellness Center.
- New flooring in the Pilates Reformer room.
What areas of the facility will be affected?
The renovation will affect our men's and women's locker rooms, Gym Ventures and Youth Center, and parts of the main lobby to accommodate a temporary access point to the pool deck. The spas in the locker rooms will be removed.
Temporary men's and women's shower, restroom and locker facilities will be available, with four showers, several toilets, and a limited number of lockers. If you simply wish to change clothes or store your belongings, please go to the current Gym Ventures and Youth Center, which is being converted to a changing area with lockers. We encourage you to arrive at the YMCA just a few minutes earlier, particularly during peak hours, or come already prepared for your workout.
Why are the spas being removed?
We have been advised by our liability insurance carrier that without full time lifeguards in our locker rooms, our spas place our members at high risk. Safety is our top priority and we have made the difficult decision to remove our spas to ensure the ongoing safety of our members. Removing the spas will provide more locker and changing space and room for the addition of a new stretching area.

How will the renovation impact the Wellness Center and other programming?
The Wellness Center will remain open, and all group exercise classes will continue as scheduled. Programs will not be interrupted, although some will be relocated temporarily:
- Youth Center will combine with Child Watch.
- Massage Therapy will be in the room directly across from its original location.
- Pilates Reformer will be held in the Rotary room.
- Gym Ventures will be held at the Moffett Field Club House.
Will the pool be affected?
Our pools will remain open throughout our renovation. A temporary and monitored access point will be added in the main lobby. Gym Ventures and Youth Center temporarily will be converted into changing areas with lockers.
What other YMCAs can I visit during the renovation?
El Camino YMCA members may utilize the following YMCAs free of charge during our renovation: Central YMCA, East Palo Alto Family YMCA, East Valley Family YMCA, Northwest YMCA, Page Mill YMCA, Palo Alto Family YMCA, Sequoia YMCA, South Valley Family YMCA, and Southwest YMCA.
