Off-Site Programs
The Central YMCA has developed a strong community presence through the operation of several offsite programs in Child Care and After School. YMCA Child Care provides quality care that is safe, convenient and active. Each program is licensed by the State of California and features structured, age-appropriate activities. The After School Enrichment Program is committed to providing quality, coordinated, and integrated extended day programs to our youth in our community.

After School Enrichment Programs
Our after school programs are funded through ASES and 21st Century funding from the state. Our programs are enrichment based which means our children participate in more than just a homework center. We provide a healthy snack daily with two food groups represented, physical activity in conjunction with the Carol M. White PEP grant as well as daily enrichment activities.
The main goals we are focusing on are: Health, Alignment with the School Day and Staff Development.
Health:
Health has always been an important component for the YMCA. We look at health in regards to having a healthy spirit, mind and body. Our behavioral management plan focuses on the YMCA’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. If we reinforce these at the site and families reinforce these values at home, we know that our children will have a healthy spirit and mind. We provide a nutritious snack daily and use Fit for Learning curriculum. These tools teach children to make responsible choices when it comes to food and to choose foods that taste good, provide them with sustainable energy as well as being good for their bodies.
Alignment with the School Day:
Our hands-on, fun, enrichment activities provide our students with a healthy mind in addition to being aligned with the California State Education Content Standards. This helps children reinforce what they are learning in school and for some of our students who need a little more support in a subject helps to give them extra assistance. Our middle school programs also participate in an Algebra grant program where they receive additional support learning mathematical concepts to prepare them for their high school education. Each child receives space and supplies to do homework for one hour a day with support from our dedicated staff team.
Staff Development:
Central YMCA is committed to growing our staff through training, support and on-site coaching. Our staff participates in many conferences and trainings each year focusing on AVID strategies, behavior management, child abuse prevention, CPR and First Aid, games, homework assistance, sports, supervision, and more. We believe that our staff can further excel through continued training. The Central YMCA experiences a relatively low turn over rate for a program of this type and for a department of this size. The majority of our team has been here since the inception of grant funding and this consistency is beneficial for students.
Our objective is to provide equity in education by providing quality programs that allow children to reach their fullest potential.
