Campo Alegre
Campo Alegre is a weeklong outdoor camp that the YMCA hosts each spring for low-income youth who live in this region’s most underserved communities. The camp is a transformative opportunity for kids, many of whom have never spent a night away from home or experienced the outdoors beyond an urban setting.
At Campo Alegre, children enjoy singing around a campfire, swimming, playing group games under the redwoods, and bonding with positive adult role models. Through the YMCA of Silicon Valley’s endowment fund and community support campaign, children attend for free or at greatly reduced costs.
Bank of the West has generously invested in the YMCA by establishing a matching endowment challenge fund for Campo Alegre which currently totals more than $100,000. Every dollar invested by the community is matched – up to $50,000 a year for five years – by Bank of the West. Our goal is to grow the endowment fund to $1 million so that we can sponsor 200 children to go to Campo Alegre each summer – forever.
